So Long, Zucker!
Like most of my peers, I have fond memories of Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies, though unlike most of my peers I refuse to actually watch them again. Not quite true; I did, a couple of years ago, catch a few minutes of Airplane!, and found it to be remarkably unfunny. Further cementing this [...]
Blackout Plus Five
So what were you doing five years ago today at 4:10PM EDT?
I was riding home from work on my bike, north on Bay Street, sailing through green lights until… no signal lights. Weird. Another block and no signal lights again. Uh-oh. Traffic started jamming up, making the already-hazardous bike/taxi/bus lane even more car-dangerous than normal.
Pedaled [...]
Invitation
Not that I would ever suggest, recommend or condone such an activity, but isn’t the rebranded Bell Canada’s new ad campaign just begging to be culture-jammed? And isn’t the Toronto Transit Commission a particularly potent target for such culture-jamming?

Oh, come on, now. Nobody doesn’t like filthy, sodomite propaganda! Nobody except scumbag hatemonger Phred Felps of GodHatesFags.com fame, that is. But you knew that already, right?
Phred’s got his dance-belt in a twist over an upcoming Toronto play, The Pastor Phelps Project, and plans a protest at Queen Street’s Cameron House on Thursday night, providing [...]
Y’know, when Paris Hilton manages to trump the John McCain campaign’s pathetic attempts at relevance with cleverness and self-deprecating wit, it’s time to maybe trim his team’s “creative” staff:
Loves it.
A Tale of Two Ads
If you’re going to criticize your competition using cultural “icons”, is it a good idea to use cultural “icons” which haven’t had any real cultural clout in two years? “Straight Talk Express” becomes “Desperate, Clueless Shortbus”:
Want to know how to do it right?
In a rare show of consensus, practically all Consumerist commenters agree: talking on your cellphone while dealing with retail staff is unacceptably douchey behaviour and we applaud the Subway sandwich outlet which posted the above sign. Consumerist commenter flamewars are expected to resume with the very next post.

High school completion rates for Alberta — the richest province in Canada, by far — drop to less than 68%.
Comments on the The Globe and Mail’s story are running at, by my approximation, 75% defending this appalling figure. And, usually, to a frighteningly retarded and strenuous degree.
Further to #2, above, here’s my absolute favourite comment:
