It’s with considerable relief that I return to semiregular posts here. I’ve hinted at a couple of the reasons but only now am feeling up to talking about it. Or, rather, them.
So here’s the deal for those of you interested and who haven’t already collected a slice’s worth of the scant breadcrumbs dropped here and [...]
So I’m in Vanvouver for a couple of days with Champ, after spending a couple in Calgary with my Mom and Dad. It’s been 15 years since I’ve been in Vancouver and in that time it grew up, a lot. It reminds me of the way I felt about Toronto 23 years ago. This is [...]
To Regular Readers,
Yes, there’s been a dearth of posts lately. No, there’s nothing wrong. Yes, there’s been some major focus-shifting in both personal and professional spheres. No, there’s nothing wrong. Yes, my thyroid’s been kicking my ass and stress from the aforementioned focus-shifting doesn’t help, either. No, there’s nothing wrong. It just means my focus [...]
Hey, guess what I was doing 22 years ago this month? I was watching medal-winning, Olympic-class athletes pee into jars.
Uh-huh!
The catchphrase was “nipples to knees”, meaning that the athlete had to pull his shirt up above his nipples and his sweatpants needed to be below his knees. And, facing me, he peed into a jar.
Yeah, I’m twelve, too.

Happy 200th, Mr. Darwin.
Canada and Australia. Almost exactly opposite each other on the globe. Two bstewarts — Aussie footballer Brett Stewart and me — in each of those countries, separated by a whole planet and yet… not as different as you might expect:
Aussie Brett Stewart was born in Wollongong, I in Winnipeg
Aussie Brett Stewart’s position is Fullback, [...]
Someone at the office rewarded my deep, abiding love for yellow CAUTION tape today:
Thanks, Dennis (20 January 2009)
In a self-referential, way-meta fashion, this is post #1000.
One thousand posts. Geez.
(Actually, to be totally honest, it’s #1001; I’ve only ever pulled one post, and that was because I said some light-hearted things about someone — who’s become a friend — which might be misconstrued as a criticism of a fine, hard-working man who [...]

Tick, Tick, Tick… Christmas 1957 (with Aunt Bea), Winnipeg
So WordPress, normally the most awesome of blogging platforms, recently upgraded to V2.7 and… while it’s a real improvment, some of the fine-tuning I’ve done in the past doesn’t sit well with my new overlord. My apologies for the hiccups and if you notice anything wonky, please don’t hesitate to comment appropriately. Or inappropriately, as [...]
Thanks to all the readers who wrote or commented on the lack of posts this week. As it turns out, a simple (but severe) cold triggered a years-dormant asthma condition and I’ve been incapable of doing much more than lying on the couch, hacking my lungs out, drenched in sweat, gobbling Tylenol like crazy and, [...]
I’m shocked — shocked! – at the accusation that I might be BEN COHEN “pandering to the base” in this series of posts celebrating… well, you know. But the BEN COHEN fact is, search engines drive people to This.That. No Other. with one BEN COHEN search string more than any other, by far. Like, almost five times [...]

The Advocate says that Silver Foxes are so hot right now:
It has never been hotter to be a silver fox. While men used to cover their gray with Grecian Formula, now an increasing number of them are proudly accepting their changing hair color — regardless of their age. Instead of being written off as [...]

A note about the images… flickr’s being hardass about the images hosted on their servers, which is their right, so in an effort to ease their concerns, I’m moving the ones they consider contentious to another server. That’ll mean there’ll be quite a few broken images until the move is complete. My apologies for the inconvenience.
