Green on Thursday #94: Dropping the Soap

Oh, bygone eras of sublimated male eroticism! Before there was Xtube there was newsgroup photo-sharing and before those there were dirty videos (βeta!) and magazines. And before those there were International Male catalogs and “fitness” magazines and before those there were the swimsuit and underwear sections of Sears and Eaton’s catalogs.

And before those there were Ivory soap ads:

Ivory-Soap-Had-a-Good-Many-Unusual-Experiences
“Ivory soap had a good many unusual experiences during the war…”

Not-the-Least-of-the-Pleasures-of-a-Hard-Game
“Not the least of the pleasure of a hard game is the bath that follows it.”

I believe it’s safe to say that I’ve devoted the latter part of my life to being 0 56/100% pure. And I can’t help but think that ads like these got Mad Men‘s Sal into advertising.

So THATS why Ivory soap was made to float! Lousy bitches.

  • I remember being in North Dakota and using an International Male catalogue for “research.” There was one picture of two guys that I researched numerous times. Several years later I headed off to Arizona State University for Grad School and in one of my first intrepid visits to the gym, there was the lesser known of the two models working out. Lands sake, was he handsome. And he knew it. And the time he took a shower with me, his smirk as I inspected him from head-to-toe, was enough to completely ruin whatever fantasies I had ever had of him.
