It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of The Dandy Warhols but it may not be widely known that The Beatles’ “Blackbird” is one of my very favourite songs. As it turns out, in the title track to The Dandys’ Welcome to the Monkey House, they sing
Wire is coming back again
Elastica got sued by them
When Michael Jackson dies
We’re covering “Blackbird”
And won’t it be absurd then
When no one knows what song they just heard
Unless someone on the radio tells them first
So come on come on come on
Come
Come on come on come on
Come on
Come on come on come on
You monkeys
Well, they promised, and they delivered:

Zia! Amazing. And so not a tribute, as many have mistaken.

‘blackbird’ is one of *your* favorite songs too?! i feel even closer to you now…
That was a *different* version of “Blackbird”, to be certain. Lush and moody, compared to the crisp and sparse one Paul McCartney recorded so many years ago…But beautiful in its own way. I can see why you wanted to share it with us. Thank you.
and upon further listening to this version i have to say i’d rather listen to fingernails going down a chalkboard. i know you love the dandy warhols, as do i, but this bites. none of the covers of this song reach the spare beauty of the original and most come close to blasphemy. so this song perhaps is one that should be left to the beatles.
super sorry.
I’m sorry, where did you say you were staying when you’re in town in, what, two weeks?
She kind of off key.

wow… kinda dour. But me LOVE the Dandy Warhols! And love that they have a comedy arc going here
Elastica was actually sued by Wire’s publishers, but any song that name-checks Wire scores bonus points in my book. Gotta love the Warhols.
