Coors Billboard in British Columbia
Oh, cripes, when I was sick last week I totally missed the brouhaha over several Coors’ billboards in British Columbia, allegedly dissing Toronto with the slogan COLDER THAN MOST PEOPLE FROM TORONTO and, I hafta say, as one of those people from Toronto, I’m deeply offended at the inaccuracy of such a claim. Seriously, if they wanted to honestly draw comparisons between their mule-urine product and the people from Toronto, MORE TASTELESS THAN MOST PEOPLE FROM TORONTO would be a helluva lot closer to the truth.
And, for real, reading the comments following The Star‘s story on the phony controversy, one has to wonder whether Toronto’s problem is its “coldness” or its residents’ unwavering capacity to strenuously defend their city’s abundant — and obvious — shortcomings.

The Coors Billboard discription of Toronto was an understatement.I have lived there for 20 years.I have traveled to 63 U.S.cities and half of Canada.
Toronto is a superficial city. it is very dull and void of character. It has become nothing more than a refugee and immigration center.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Toronto. I fully understand all of your complaints about it; indeed, I echo most of them. But I like it here. Still, I have to admit, sometimes it is hard to bear. I don’t understand how anyone could pay any attention to this “slight” to Toronto. I would be humiliated if I even suspected that anyone thought I was troubled at all by being called “cold.” Not because my Toronto-centric arrogance makes me indifferent to what others say, but because being called “cold” is vastly preferable to actually being whiney, stupidly self-righteous and humourless.
Um.. ya.
I think the main purpose of that add was to get attention, and it did that. I hate the beer! LOL. And is it insulting.. ya a bit. Cause I do not consider myself cold, nor do I consider Toronto the centre of the world. It is an imigration centre, but it is a lot more than that! Much like most large cities.. great galleries, museums, concert/theatre venues, street/cultural celebrations, great clothing optional beach!!! That are very ‘warm; and friendly!
It is what it is! It’s not NYC, or LA… but I like it.
BStewart: FTW!!!
I, for one, am more offended by the implication that Coors is considered palatable beer…
(misses her Yuengling…)
Who drinks that shit anyway???
