Well, the floor’s been replaced, as you can see below, and we’re still waiting for all our stuff, also as you can see below. Friday, fingers crossed. At work I’m in the busiest testing cycle I can recall and once that’s done, I can script in C# to my heart’s content while the boss is on vay-cay next week.
Life is good here. This move is the best, the healthiest and smartest thing I could have done, and leaving Toronto at the start of what will no doubt become an endless garbage strike, with no ferry service to the island for some beachy respite — not to mention a liquor store strike on the horizon — leaves me thinking “phew, nick of time.”
If we can find the barbecue we want before the week’s out, our life here will be complete. Simpler, healthier, happier. Seriously, the best take-out sushi I’ve had and a grilled steak? Dude.

and it gets better and better the longer you’re here on the BC coast
Congrats on your simpler, healthier, happier move!
I’ve been a reader of yours for ages (I used to post on the Hissyfit boards, to give you an idea), but never commented. I only comment now because I work in the appliance industry and I think I may be able to get you a deal on a BBQ, depending on what you’re looking for. I’m in tremendously unhip Burnaby, but it may be worth a trip.
Nicole, thanks so much for the offer. We hit paydirt (I think) last night at Home Depot on Terminal and an hour later have a working BBQ, and picked up some bike storage supplies and shims for our bookcases when they arrive, too.
Mmm, steak.
Wow great place… love the floor!
Oh my gods , are you doing yoga now?
You look amazing. I’ll be out to see you in the fall. Miss you like a mofo.
Right, Q. Me. Doing yoga. See you in the fall, hon.
Whenever I move into new digs, I take multiple solemn vows to keep it simple, clean, minimal, to let the space shine on its own, just like yours does right now. Then the cluttering begins. Human existence is messy.
I almost think it would be a shame to cover those floors with furniture. Can’t you just eschew the stuff and live this Spartan??
Wow. I am seriously lusting after those floors. I’m talking, “Lust in my heart,” kind of lust. Mmmm, pretty, pretty floors.
Sorry – I guess I just miss having a place of my own (roommate is clutter bug – I am not – arrghhh). I can’t wait until I set up my own home soon(ish).
Congrats on the move and the simpler, healthier, happier life!
The daimyo in his donjon keep…centered to say the least. Good move!
