No Word on Whether He Got a Standing Ovation?

Man shoots talker at movies, police say:

(CNN) – A man angry that a family was talking during a movie threw popcorn at the son and then shot the father in the arm, according to police in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

James Joseph Cialella was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges.

James Joseph Cialella, 29, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons violations, a police report said.

Cialella told the family sitting in front of him in the theater on Christmas Day to be quiet, police said.

An argument ensued while others at the Riverview Movie Theatre watched “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Cialella then approached the family from the left side of the aisle and shot the father, who was not identified, as he was standing between Cialella and his family, according to the police report.

The victim was taken to Jefferson Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left arm, police said.

Cialella was carrying a Kel-Tec .380-caliber handgun clipped inside his sweatpants, police said. He was arrested and taken into custody.

As far as I’m concerned, Ciallela’s only crime was wearing sweatpants to a movie.

    i totally agree.

so remember that scene in ‘airplane’ where the woman is hysterical and the flight attendant repeatedly slaps her and tells her to get ahold of herself. and then they show the line of people behind her with guns, baseball bats, machetes….now *that’s* what needs to happen to people who talk through movies.

  • Something tells me this ‘freedom’ is not exactly what the founding fathers had in mind when they wrote the 2nd amendment.

However, having lived in a far-flung town such as Arcata for five years I can say with absolute certainty that there’d be a least three fresh corpses at each and every movie I’ve seen if I were carrying such an item. People act as if they’re in their living rooms and there’s nobody else in the world. Honestly, it’s maddening.

On more than one occasion I’ve turned around to inform patrons, ‘I did not pay ten dollars to hear you prove you’re an ignorant hick.’

In Portland, however, people chat politely before and after the movie, but never, never in-between. It’s really quite astonishing. Go Portland.

bstewart23: “Your Second Amendment rights are trampling all over my First Amendment rights!”

  • I went to see “The Tale of Despereaux”. The 6 year olds were all quite well behaved, really. Their obnoxious yuppy parents? Not so much. Especially, the dimwitted bimbo sitting next to me who kept talking to her child who was trying to watch the movie, while noisily gobbling down pizza. (the bimbo, not the child) After which she simply tossed the pizza box on the floor.

I’m not sure if I wanted to shoot her. I was tempted however to give her a good bitch slap.

bstewart23: It sounds like their parents have not yet taught the kids how to be overentitled, obnoxious, selfish, mean-spirited fuckweasels. Won’t be long, now.

  • Honestly some people just deserve it. Everyone pays the same ticket price so people should be respectful of others. So many times I have said that I wish I had a gun right now in movie theaters. Some people refuse to accommodate others and think they are sitting in their living room. I thank this man for putting fear in peoples minds.
No one would dare talk like an idiot in movie theaters anymore.

He should get a medal, not arrested.

  • Philly Mike

Sometimes I swell with pride regarding the city where I was born, raised and still live, this is one of those times!

All I have to say it RIGHT ON! But next time just beat the guy’s ass instead of shooting him. You’re more likely to get off with a slap on the wrist but now you will have jail time no doubt.

  • T. Remington

I say give him a GOLD MEDAL. If the theaters can’t clamp down on talkers, its time for the vigilante system to be born again!! Or the alternative is to issue gusn to all theater patrons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mike

This guy is my hero!!! While I was reading the story, I kept hoping to see the photo of the “victim” who was shot. I am sure we can all picture what happened. The “victim” was asked to be quiet. The “victim” replied with an obscenity despite being blantantly inconsiderate to those around him. Popcorn was thrown at the “victim” and more obscenities followed from the “victim”. Then “victim” was shot. Although I am from Texas and beleive in carrying a gun, let me first state that shooting this guy was a bit over the top. Tasing him 2-3 times in front of his family would have been much more satisfying!!! Atleast the other movie-goers could have participated. And T. Remington is absolutely correct – the movie theaters need to start clamping down on these idiots. To pay $10 for a movie ticket, $5 for a soda and $7 for popcorn is outrageous when the environment is out of control with people talking to each other, cell phones going off, people talking on their cell phones, etc.

  • WTF?

He attempted to murder another human being for talking in a movie theater. I have a permit to carry, and I NEVER would even imagine using my firearm for killing someone for talking in a movie theater. I’m not disagreeing that there are some inconsiderate people out there. But to shoot someone for it? That’s a little freakin’ extreme, don’t you think?

  • Cb

Stupid fucker. He should have aimed for the face.

bstewart23: I can’t agree. Sorry. The face is for stabbing.

  • Kristin

Hey, we don’t fuck around with our movies in Philly, ok?

But seriously kids, when are those who run movie theaters going to get off their asses and start doing something about people who won’t SHUT THE FUCK UP during a movie? I don’t want to see violence inflicted on anyone ever, but goddamn, I understand the impulse. ALSO, NO TEXTING.
