I agree with Mark. I do not find this movie depressing per say … but simply brilliantly written. I have the whole show memorized too … and I can watch it over and over again. And God bless Leonard Frey … what an actor !

I’ve seen this movie so many times (and listened to the origninal cast recording – which is the same cast as the movie) that I have the whole show memorized. Not depressing, just brilliantly written.

I don’t find this depressing at all.

Under all their double-aught trappings, these people still exist.

And they’re still trying finding their way, just as these characters were.

It’s a grown up film for grown up people.

Life isn’t always pleasant.

Parties aren’t always fun.

Oh, I don’t know–I’ve watched it many times. It’s a sad story, but I don’t find it depressing. I find it bracing, like a walk in the cold. It may not be pleasant at the time, but it’s a relief to come in where it’s warm. It’s a film (and a play) very much of its time, but all the issues it raises still live with us.

this is one of those movies you can only watch once.

i watched it alone, in the mid 90s.

i remember being quite depressed after watching it.

perhaps because it struck a little too close to home, and i was forced to watch home on the screen.

kinda like queer as folk, but not money-grubbing.
