Last night on CNN, one of my heroes — and probably my greatest influence to get into journalism almost 20 years ago — Michelangelo Signorile calmly and succinctly tore apart the increasingly shrill, delusional and bullying of same-sex marriage-opposer Maggie Gallagher:
Maggie apparently doesn’t take kindly to the names of Prop 8′s financial supporters — which are part of the public record (something else she does not understand) — being republished over the intertubes, like right here, for example. Of course, the beauty of the intertubes is that delusional arguments such as Gallagher’s will be available forever, and in a few years, when the inevitable happens, she and those of her ilk will be looked upon with disdain and ridicule.
But why wait until the future?
Maggie, you’re an idiot, and your shrill, delusional defense of a family unit which existed only in the fevered dreams of 1950s advertising executives is becoming increasingly unhinged and laughable. You’re a sputtering bully, Maggie Gallagher, you’re wrong and you’re on the losing side of history. You will be a laughing stock everywhere you go.

She was so irrational and upset that even if she did have a valid point, she wouldn’t have been able to get it across. She’s an ass.
If you watch closely, you can actually see her snap right around the point she’s asked to defend her ludicrous ‘You don’t see No on 8 donors being listed on any Yes on 8 websites’ statement. (The concept of ‘public record’ obviously eludes her.) One blink and, well, you can see where the words ‘gibbering lunatic’ might be applied.
“Let’s blacklist artists who disagree with you…” Who? Stephen Baldwin? Pat Boone? Lady, snap out of it.

I love this. Bigots in California are crapping their pants over the fact that their donations made in favor of Prop 8 are public knowledge. So, when they made their donations from work at their desk or at home in their boxer shorts or pyjamas, they could feel comfortable and safe about being sexually prejudiced. Now that their prejudice is public knowledge, it’s – “OH MY GOD HOW COULD YOU PEOPLE PUBLISH MY NAME ON THE INTERNET?!?”
Why, it was easy, sweetie. As as easy as it was FOR YOU TO MAKE THAT FUCKING DONATION TO IMPERIL MY MARRIAGE. I researched the database and compiled a Local Haters list for my county, forwarded it to everyone I know and encouraged them to do the same.
The Irish practically won the Land Wars by inventing and successfully employing the boycott. It’s that old-school, only now (thanks internet) the whole damned world knows who to shun.
The donor list is an invaluable tool, and should be used to picket and boycott businesses that have tried to harm us. In Evanston IL, home of North Western University, the owner of the local cinema donated thousands of dollars to yes on prop 8. His business will be the site of a demonstration this coming Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Hatred and bigotry is being kicked out of the closet, into the light of day, and it is a very healthy thing. We all know how lives fester in the closet, and take on pathology, when limited to dark, enclosed spaces. Outing bigotry is the healthiest way of sparking debate and discussion between bigots, and those they seek to oppress. Knowing there are repercussions for financing causes which seek to destroy equal rights, will serve to curtail donations from all but the most entrenched haters. Calls to mind the dangerous anonymity of the Klan members, all those white collar businessmen who supported lynching, rape, and torture as long as their identity was hidden under a hood and white sheet. Fuck anonymity, Fuck Maggie Gallagher (with someone else’s cock though), and FUCK YOU to all those who can’t handle the public knowledge of their private hate.
Flush the assholes out of their hiding places and rip off their white hoods. Then we can all vote on whether we approve of their “lifestyles”.
