From today’s Toronto Star, a disturbing story from Toronto’s neighbour, Oshawa:
Jane Currie and her partner, Anji Dimitriou, both small, soft-spoken women, were waiting with other parents at Gordon B. Attersley public school in Oshawa, when, fists flying, a man attacked them, his blows as harmful as his words.
“Which one of you two ‘men’ spoke to my kid? F—— dyke. Lesbians,” he said, spitting in Dimitriou’s face. As she wiped her face, eyes closed, he punched her on the cheek and wound up again, slamming her backward into her truck. As Currie ran toward him, she remembers him shouting, “F—— dyke bitches,” and punched her on the cheekbone so hard the skin burst apart, blood splattering.
Video hereWhat Currie remembers most, from the afternoon of Nov. 3, is the stillness of the schoolchildren, and the sound of her six-year-old son screaming. “It was a face of complete and utter horror,” Currie said in an interview yesterday. “His mouth was wide open, and he just stood there, screaming.”

Insp. Brian Osborne, of Durham Regional Police, said last night that the department will investigate the possibility that the assaults could be classified as hate crimes. The decision to pursue those charges is usually made with the Crown attorney’s office, Osborne said.
In 2006, Statistics Canada reported that one-quarter of hate crimes were motivated by religion and one in 10 by sexual orientation. Hate crimes accounted for less than 1 per cent of all criminal incidents reported by police.
Currie said a rally is being planned for Friday night at 7 at, at King St. and Centre St. in downtown Oshawa. The couple has gathered support on a Facebook site called, “Lesbian moms attacked outside elementary school,” which so far has almost 3,000 members.
Currie said her son, and her partner’s seven-year-old daughter and six-year-old son, all students at the school, are terrified of encountering the man again.
“I’m angry,” Currie said. “Why does he even care? Is his existence so pathetic that he needs to single me out for how I live my life?”
Charged is Mark Scott, 43, of Oshawa.
Memo to Insp. Brian Osborne, of Durham Regional Police: Sure sounds like a hate crime to me, dude.
And I can answer your last question, Jane: yes, his existence is that pathetic. You, your partner Anji and your family have our support and best wishes for speedy recoveries. And some justice.

What a stupid, pathetic man. I hope he enjoys the jail time away from his own family for his “two minutes hate”. And having to explain to his own kid why daddy is in prison.
I’m wondering if he is thinking right now that perhaps it wasn’t worth it…
Is this particular individual still in custody? I don’t know how these things work in Canada. Is there bail or is he out? Jeez. I wouldn’t feel safe either. Asshole.
When I read stories like this one, I see red. I suspect sometime this will happen to me, or someone near me, and all bets are off. Mother fucker will know every ounce of pain I can inflict, and collateral damage be damned. I am so very tired of this bullshit, and my fuse is very short these days. Did anyone come to this poor woman’s defense? His existence is entirely pathetic, and one very much in need of ending, in prison, or by retaliation by a person willing to fight back (but then this type of person would never pick on someone he didn’t think he could easily bully, would he?) Piece of shit.

After some searching I finally found the man’s side of the story.
Apparently the women called his son a nigger.
Not that this excuses such an attack, but why is it so hard to find someone who reported both sides of the story. I can understand getting very angry over someone calling my son that.

Where the allegation is brought up and is refuted both by one of the women involved and by someone else who linked to an article [http://www.newsdurhamregion.com/news/article/112449] that quoted a third-party witness who says the attack was “unprovoked?”
Chris, if you think “it’s hard to find someone who reported both sides of the story,” please make things easier by citing your source.

This is Canada, and the justice system is crippled. This guy, will not be charged with a hate crime, and he will get no jail time, so get used to the fact. If this guy had of maimed a skunk, or purposefully ran over a squirrel, yes he would see a federal sentence, but to beat two woman in front of children, he will be looked at as a hero by the majority of redneck Canadians. The writing is on the wall.

Armed Gays don’t get bashed
Mark Scott’s lawyer is appealing to the courts and playing the race card by saying that his client was targetted just because he’s “black”. He is claiming that his client was a “victim” of racial abuse and physical abuse….What an Idiot!
I’m curious as to the sexual orientations of Mark Scott’s children. My theory is Mark Scott is angry because his own kids are homosexual and Mark Scott took his anger about it out on the first gay person/people he came across, in front of the kids, to prove some sick point to them.
I feel sorry for the kids.
Of all the injustice and hate black people have had to endure in this world, it seems that Mark Scott would have maybe learned something from it.
I kinda hope he goes to prison and gets ass raped by KKK members.
