Make History

Dear America,

This fucking election is almost over. And history is about to be made. But only if you vote and only if you vote to reject, soundly, the policies which have tarnished America’s international reputation, the Rovian politics which have created the most divided America I’ve seen during my lifetime and the military-industrial greed which jeopardizes the future for your children and their children.

I’ve been following U.S. politics for nearly 40 years and never before have I seen such a bold, clear and optimistic choice for the American voter. Stop the politics of division and embrace equality and hope and reality. But only if you vote. Please vote. For change and for hope. This day will be historic.

Much love,
b

PS: In California and Arizona and Arkansas and Florida are measures and proposals which are intended to entrench, boldly and obscenely, discrimination against same-sex couples and parents, couples and parents who want the same happiness and rights enjoyed by the rest of society.

The speech above was made by one of my heroes, Harvey Milk, thirty years ago. Thirty years ago! Why is there still this fight? What kind of society do you want? If you believe in inclusion and if you believe in equality, you will soundly reject the politics of unfounded fear, of lies and of division. Please.

Well, my part is complete. The vote is cast. Now I wait with the rest of the world to see if I made a difference

  • i just got back from voting. i expected to cry, but i didn’t. and i was really lucky on my timing. i only waited 5 minutes!

president barack hussein obama. i’m going to enjoy getting used to that!

  • I did my part, and I hope all of my brothers & sisters do theirs, as well.

    Now we wait.

Another vote for Obama registered as of 9:00 ET. Here’s to having hope for the first time in years.

  • It only took an hour. Which from what I am reading is nothing as far as waits go today. Now all we can do is wait.

My husband Tom, our friend Susan and I went to our polling place at 7am this morning right when they opened and for the first time in 8 years, there was a long line of people waiting to get in. It took us half an hour but we voted. Felt great.

As we were leaving, we looked across the street and there was someone holding a Yes on Prop 8 sign. We turned our heads and saw two people holding No on Prop 8 signs. After we had breakfast, Tom and I picked up some coffee and donuts for the No on 8 people, thanking them for their hard work today.

I am so, so nervous about today.

  • I early voted on Oct. 25th, and as of last night, 41% of all registered voters in New Mexico did as well. The state went red by 6000 votes in 2004, but Democrats are set to win a US Senate and all 3 US House seats. I will be so happy to no longer see Steve Pearce’s weaselly face on my TV screen.

The fact that my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers totally stomped the Washington Redskins has been taken as a sign that the incumbent party is set to lose.

The first polls close at 6:00pm EST, 4 in the afternoon here. I’m crossing my fingers and toes…

Lifehacker has a great page with CNBC feeds as well as feeds from the campaigns of the next PotUS and the old guy. Also, there’s a live map at Google that should start lighting up in a few hours…
