The Out Campaign

The Out Campaign

Small Problem for Lying, Expense-Account-Abusing, Reproductive-Rights-Crushing Politician Who Believes Election is in God’s Hands: God Probably Doesn’t Exist

So the delusional, lying, expense-account-abusing, logic-mangling Governor from Alaska, Sarah Palin, spoke recently with James Dobson — the infamous, evangelical, gaybashing subhuman from Focus on the Family — and she not only believes her lord specifically chose her to advance the pro-life agenda by giving her a Down Syndrome child, but also believes that the big guy in the sky will determine the election’s outcome, not the American voters:

In an interview with evangelical leader James Dobson that aired Wednesday, Palin said she thought Republican presidential candidate John McCain would implement the GOP platform if elected — “I do, from the bottom of my heart” — but McCain doesn’t support the platform on three issues important to evangelicals: abortion, gay marriage and embryonic stem cell research.

Palindrome

The platform calls for a constitutional ban on gay marriage, an issue McCain says should be left to individual states. Similarly, the platform seeks a constitutional ban on all abortions; again, McCain supports allowing states to decide the question. McCain supports research using embryonic stem cells, which the platform opposes.

Palin called it a “strong platform” and told Dobson, “They are there, they are solid, we stand on them and, again, I believe that it is the right agenda for the country at this time.”

The Alaska governor talked by phone with Dobson for about 20 minutes Monday while she was in Colorado campaigning. Dobson’s Focus on the Family radio program aired the interview Wednesday.

Dobson asked whether Palin was discouraged by polls showing the GOP ticket behind.

“To me, it motivates us, makes us work that much harder,” Palin said. “And it also strengthens my faith, because I’m going to know, at the end of the day, putting this in God’s hands, that the right thing for America will be done at the end of the day on Nov. 4. So I’m not discouraged at all.”

Fortunately for the rest of us, there doesn’t appear to be any substantial evidence in favour of the existence of such a “God”, and one of faith’s loudest declaimers is Richard Dawkins, who’s promised to match every donation to a campaign to place atheist advertising on English buses:

Atheist Bus

The atheist bus campaign launches today thanks to Comment is free readers. Because of your enthusiastic response to the idea of a reassuring God-free advert being used to counter religious advertising, the slogan “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life” could now become an ad campaign on London buses — and leading secularists have jumped on board to help us raise the money.

The British Humanist Association will be administering all donations to the campaign, and Professor Richard Dawkins, bestselling author of The God Delusionhas generously agreed to match all contributions up to a maximum of £5,500, giving us a total of £11,000 if we raise the full amount. This will be enough to fund two sets of atheist adverts on 30 London buses for four weeks.

Now, there’s always a kerfuffel when stuff like the campaign, above, goes down. There’s the usual outcry of religious discrimination — always fun when the majority claims victimization and seeks protections established to aid minorities — and, of course, merely mentioning the name Richard Dawkins raises the hackles of those who somehow view this remarkably temperate and good-humoured scientist and intellectual as an insulting, offensive boor.

And let’s not go into those who read the ad copy and claim that there’s plenty to be worried about in this day and age, missing the point of the campaign entirely, that you needn’t worry about god’s judgement any more than you need worry about, say, Gandalf’s judgement or spending eternity in a vat of flaming Flubber.

  • Who needs Halloween monsters when we have Sarah Palin? She scares the bajeebers out of me.

  • I like this almost as much as the ‘Some Folks Are Gay – Get Over It’ campaign. It’s too bad they were legally advised to include that ‘probably.’ Still, I love being exhorted to ENJOY my life. When was the last time someone told you life was for enjoying? Seems like ages.

I worry about Gandalf’s judgment constantly. And from what I’ve seen of him, he looks like a pretty judgy kind of guy.

Sarah ‘the Orc’ Palin would be wise to worry about him too.

  • I have to say, “boorish” seems like an understatement on Dawkins to me. Dude gives me a hive.

I’m also somewhat disapproving of the bus campaign – but I hasten to add that I’d be equally disapproving of a Christian equivalent. I just find public religion so tacky.

As for Palin – I think I’d rather Ann Coulter. At least she’s a slightly less retarded brand of crazy.

The bus campaign was because a Christian group had some ads on buses -generic evangelical stuff (Yay, God! Boo, the world! Random Biblical quote!), so really, they haven’t got a leg to stand on.

My favourite thing to come out of this? The guy from the Christian Voice who, in response to the agnostic bus ads, said, “People don’t like being preached at.”

  • Honestly, the actual majority of Christians don’t bother me. It is the nutjob, vocal minority that are worried that you are going to make the baby Jeebus cry that get on my nerves. Especially the ones that claim they are in the majority. Talk about making baby Jeebus cry. And why do they call themselves Christians anyway, since they are constantly quoting the old testament? Didn’t they get the memo?

As far as memory serves, the almighty doesn’t get to vote in the American election, so Ms. Palin is shit outta luck on that one. Throughout all of this election cycle, what I have found most disappointing and disturbing is the medias refusal to call Palin on all of the lies and misrepresentations she has presented as, if you will, gospel.

  • What scares me is how vindicated this woman would feel if her party were to actually win. Could you imagine if the already-self assured feels even MORE right?

    They would be unstoppable.

i’m glad there’s no campaign against the Flying Spaghetti Monster (praise his noodly goodness). If there were, I’d have to get pissed!

  • Michelle

Oh man. Bitch crazy. I need this election to be over so that woman can disappear from my consciousness already.

But before she does, when the Dems win, can someone remind her on Nov 5 that she said God’s will would be done on Nov 4? Just to watch her speak-in-tongues her way out of that one?
