RAM

Keith Olbermann really rammed it home last night, unleashing some Righteous Angry Memories on the Republigion hijacking of a national tragedy for the most craven of political manoeuvering:

Like every other day, I can’t stomach turning on CNN today. Especially today. But the events of the past, on this day, have joined those which we can’t ever forget, never.

So?

Every year on this day I read Sarah Bunting’s account of her experience of that day. I think you should, too.

Addendum: like it needs explicitly stating how fucking awesome my friend Sars is, she did it again. Seriously, after reading “For Thou Art With Us”, above, stick around and read “Angels in America”.

I love this man. He has been one of the lonely voices shouting the truth about this entirely corrupt administration. He is one of the reasons that hope has not died out in me, that we can effect change, that all is not lost…

This is why I don’t watch TV news and have been gravitating more toward printed information. The vitriol Keith spews is nearly as bad as that of Bill O’Reilly. Granted it’s necessary to keep the uber right balanced out (and I generally agree with Keith)… but still. It disgusts me that journalism has come to this pass.

And it is even more disgusting how the Republicans have co-opted the twin towers falling as THEIR symbol.

I refuse to watch TV today or read any news.

Actually, cb, NO, you’re wrong. Just because Olbermann holds an opposing viewpoint to the scumbag douchery of O’Reilly does not make it in any way equivalent. That’s like saying creationism should be taught in schools because it’s an opposes evolution. And that would be dumb-assed.

Olbermann tells the truth and he does it with an intensity entirely befitting the material. He’s not a reporter, he’s a pundit. Enough. We’ve had e-fucking-NOUGH of the lies and chicanery of Republigion loudmouths who drown out reasonable discourse. And Olbermann is so fucking right-on in his denunciation of Rovian truth-fucking that I’m prepared to get a sex change, just so I can be his ladyfriend.

I DID say that I agree with Keith… but when you LISTEN to him (I mean really divorce yourself and listen) he sounds every bit as revved up and angerspeechy as the right wingers do… just from a left perspective.

And just as the righties shout big Amens to O’Reilly for preaching “the truth”… I can’t help but feel the lefties are doing the same thing– just on the other side.

Sometimes what Keith says makes me cringe a bit and say “Wow… really?” Just like I do when O’Reilly (or Limbaugh or Coulter) speechify.

  • bstewart, I want to be his ladyfriend too and I don’t even need a sex change. Or a sexual orientation change. Somehow I still don’t think it’s going to happen. Olbermann is speaking the truth and attention MUST BE PAID.

(Though, much as I adore Olbermann, Jon Stewart still comes first.)

I also completely agree with Olbermann about his views on Giuliani – “America’s Mayor” has been shown to be a fraud and this should be screamed from the tallest standing buildings in the country/.

  • thanks for the pointer to sarah’s story. i needed a purifying cry today.

  • Glad finally someone is calling out the fact that the wingnuts see 9/11 as less of a tragedy and more like Christmas. I caught a clip of Ghouliani’s RNC speech on The Daily Show, where he made the observation that the Dems made no mention of 9/11, and the crowd cheered madly. I love how it made them look like they were cheering 9/11, which, let’s face it, some of them might have been doing (at least on the inside) that day.

Keith’s comment also brought up something I have begun to suspect. They are never going to catch Bin Laden, and to a certain extent, they don’t WANT to catch Bin Laden. He’s too useful as a bogeyman out in the wilds of Pakistan; if captured, he is then just a man, and not an image.

What amazes me is the fact that members of the Republican Party aren’t tormented in the depths of night by the sound of Lincoln doing 100,000 RPM in his grave. They only mention him every 4 years at the RNC to look broad minded, and then don’t mention him the rest of the time. Hell, these folks would Swift Boat Dwight Eisenhower…

I stumbled upon your blog not long ago because you had posted some pictures of construction in Toronto. I lived and worked there for almost five years and I miss it so much. I come back here on a regular basis to get my t dot fix. I am never disappointed. I lived a block from Yonge and Bloor and I get a kick out of seeing the old neighborhood every once in a while.

When I saw your note today about your friend Sars, I couldn’t believe it. I was a huge fan of Television without Pity before it went corporate and I’ve started reading Tomato Nation on a regular basis. I feel like I had a “small world” moment. Could this be THE Sars from TWoP? And sure enough it was. And she is every bit as awesome as you say she is.

I was in Toronto on Sept 11, 2001. I am forever grateful for those friends who were there for me.

    Thanks for the memories.

Hi, Brett: Just a short note to say how much I enjoy visiting your site here. There’s always something interesting and your commentary is always insightful and witty. I’ve seen a lot of blogs and yours is certainly one of the best! (I think you have a twin and her name is Cintra Wilson). Keep up the great work.
