The Out Campaign

Bay Adelaide Centre is as environmentally conscious as Al Gore but WAY more exciting to watch.

Bay-Adelaide-Gore
Bay Adelaide Centre, Toronto, 14 January 2007

Woman on Bus: “Are you taking a picture of that sign?”

Me: “Yeah, it’s… something else.”

Woman: “It’s very funny. And so true!”

Me: “You think it’s funny?”

Woman: “Of course! Have you seen him talk?”

Me: “Of course. Have you seen his movie?”

Woman: “No, I don’t need to see it to know that Al Gore is boring. You don’t think the sign is funny? Don’t you get it?”

Me: “Oh, I get it. It’s just not funny. It’s a joke that’s too easy to be funny. Also, it diminishes the importance of Gore’s message by ignoring it completely and by making specious claims that this building — or any office tower in Toronto — is somehow ‘environmentally conscious’. As if being ‘conscious’ of the environment is somehow enough.”

Woman: “I guess you just don’t have a sense of humour.”

Me: “I guess not.”

BITCH (not you, the bus chick), don’t you know Al Gore was on Futurama?! Besides, it’s not that YOU don’t have a sense of humor; it’s that SHE doesn’t know what “specious” means. So, okay, the BUILDING, itself, is “environmentally conscious.” Really. So….. it worries about what the buildings around it think of it? It’s embarrassed when birds crap on its roof? Or is the consciousness driven inward: it’ll have voice-activated appliances but when you tell it to start the washer it says, “I can’t do that, Dave” and reads your lips and shit? Really? Hum. Also, for the record: BBC Online is the only way to get news; and frankly, I’d love to have a gay organ. My pancreas went down in flames eight years ago; having the pancreas of some healthy guy whose had a cock in his mouth (come ON, really: who over 21 hasn’t??) would ROCK. Stabilize my blood sugar and improve my head technique all in one fell swoop? Hell, yeah, I’d get one!
